INSPIRATION
A travelling trope of art with its heart found in India. A secret grail for master couturiers to reinvent the depths of heritage. A global Indian’s favourite piece of nostalgia of the homeland. Paisley; the single motif that transcends into many forms and facets, surprisingly and delightfully, is derived from an equally rich history of the free India.

THE MAKING
Shahi celebrates the evolution of imperial Indian culture which has seen influences of the Persian, Mughal, and Afghani monarchies tracing over the reminiscent “Buta” that camouflages in everyday rituals like Rangoli and festive traditions like Henna even today.

The name 'paisley' is not an international name for the pattern, it is called palme in France, bota in Netherlands, bootar in India and peizuli in Japan.
Many diverse cultures have used this same ‘paisley’ symbol and consider it to represent many objects including a cashew fruit, a mango or the sprouting date palm, an Indian symbol of fertility.
